March 2, 2014 | Pastor John Bayles | The Fifth Discourse: The Man of Truth | John 7:14-27

We see again that Jesus is not driven by the terms of the moment or the wishes of people. He is not waiting for a time to teach, but for the time to teach, on His time, God's time. How often have we been subject to speaking or acting because we were driven by a reaction to time or people?

The most amazing part of this analysis is that God is sovereign over all things, including our mistakes and missteps. We see this in our lives as we look at our past. When we look back, we do not remember the agony of trick decisions or whether or not we did the right thing. We see a clear line of directions on the path of life which has brought us precisely to where we are today. However, for us, this view is always seen after the fact. It gives us a reason for thanks that God has ordained a safe passage for us, through mistakes and missteps.

Here, in Jesus we see God's sovereignty working, not from a past point of view, but in real time as he listens, waits, and acts in complete undivided unity with the divine will. The aim of this lesson is to draw encouragement from knowing that, even though we look at life as a huge array of indecision, multiple options, highly consequential decisions and groping to find our way, God is guiding us by His divine will through it all for our greatest good and His greatest glory.
